The research project ‘Brain Drain from Developing Countries: Mobility of Nigerian Graduates within Nigeria and International’ is aimed at making manifest the correlation between education, migration and socio-economic structures in developing countries. The focus lies on knowledge as a crucial factor for socio-economic success. Therefore, the goal of the project is, to show and analyze the connection between inter-regional and structural disparities as well as its influence on the mobility of Nigerian graduates related to both encouraging socio-economic aspects and developmental constraints.
The main questions on a structural level are for example: Which regions/universities are the areas of origin of national and international migration, and which are the destination areas, and why? How do educational and work migrations determine the whole migration process? On an individual or stakeholder level the disparities between the Nigerian graduates in regional, social, ethnic and religious origin as well as their migration biographies and integration in diaspora networks were given prominence.
There is cooperation with three universities of Nigeria, namely the University of Ibadan, the University of Jos and the University of Port Harcourt.
